ServeFest 2010…WOW!

That’s what most of the ServeFest volunteers felt this year all over the Baltimore region. Wow. Through acts of loving kindness, ServeFest touched the lives of thousands of people. Who would have imagined that in one day over 3,500 volunteers would roll up their sleeves and serve our area schools, parks, neighbors and needy with no strings attached. One question we often heard from genuinely curious people in the community was, “Why are you doing this?”. Great question. Why would moms and dads, teenagers and young adults, grandparents and kids sacrifice a beautiful Saturday to dig in the dirt, clean up trash, spread mulch or paint a wall? Why would people from all walks of life be so motivated to labor for the benefit of others knowing they get nothing in return?

Here’s a few answers:
“When you look at the life of Jesus, how He served and gave, even His own life…it’s motivation enough. His love compels us and it’s got to be more than just words.”

“I love my community and I wanted to give back. ServeFest came along and it’s a great way to help others. It’s hard work, but totally worth it!”

“This is about churches coming together to be united as THE Church. We can do so much more together. Baltimore needs to see a unified Church full of people that love the city and region. That’s what ServeFest is all about.”

“It’s about God’s love and giving back and serving other people. That’s most important. It’s not about ‘myself’, but about something bigger.”

“To see the looks on the faces of the people we’re serving…it’s priceless. Kindness is sometimes scarce these days so when we have an opportunity to show kindness by serving, it creates a lasting affect.”

ServeFest 2010 was awesome. Next year will be even bigger as we show Living Proof of a Loving God.
